Employee Rights Committee - Defenders of Your Rights
The Employee Rights Committee is a Standing Committee established in the Constitution & ByLaws and charged with defending the rights of all Bargaining Unit members as established in the Negotiated Agreement.
Committee members have various levels of training. Committee members with sufficient training to represent members in grievance procedures are designated as Advocates. The committee also has at its disposal paid highly skilled and trained professionals provided by NEA-Alaska and has access to all the resources of the National Education Association, the nation's largest labor union.
Members should know their rights, but individual members are not expected to have the contract memorized. Expectations and misconceptions abound, and rights can change as new agreements are negotiated. This area of the web site has been created to provide members with the best information concerning what your rights are and how to protect them.
Members should contact the ESSA office whenever they have a concern about their rights. It is far easier to resolve an issue before things get out of hand.
The committee is always looking for members to serve. If you are interested in helping ESSA provide a critical function for your fellow members, please contact the ESSA office.
